The Wisconsin Wound Care Initiative was developed with the intent of significantly reducing the incidence and severity of pressure ulcers among individuals residing in Wisconsin's nursing homes. The goal of this program is to increase specialized wound care education, skills and certification of facility nursing staff and to dramatically expand the number of Wisconsin nursing home facilities that utilize wound care certified professionals in prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers.
A week long wound care training course with wound care certification examination will be offered at four different locations in the state of Wisconsin. The course will be given by the Wound Care Education Institute and Wound Care Certification exam and credentials will be offered by the National Alliance of Wound Care™. Qualified Wisconsin nursing homes will be given the opportunity to send one participant.
The initiative is being sponsored by the National Alliance of Wound Care® (NAWC®), Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services, Wisconsin Health Care Association, Wisconsin Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, Wisconsin Directors of Nursing Council, Wound Care Education Institute, West Bend Mutual Insurance, Golden Living, Metastar, Kindred Health Care Foundation and GuideOne Insurance.
